Dr. Macsata received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University in 1992 and her Medical Doctorate from Temple University in 1996. She completed her general surgery residency from Medstar Washington Hospital Center in 2001 followed by her vascular surgery fellowship from Medstar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University. She is currently board certified in General and Vascular Surgery and a Registered Vascular Laboratory Technologist (RVT). She comes to George Washington University Hospital after spending the last 11 years as Chief of Vascular Surgery and Medical Director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC. While there, she was also the program director for the Medstar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University vascular surgery residency and fellowship. She maintains her academic affiliation with George Washington University as an Associate Professor of Surgery. Her area of clinical expertise is arterial endovascular and open vascular surgery. She is proficient in treating a wide variety of occlusive and aneurysmal vascular disease including those affecting the carotid, upper extremity, thoracic aorta, abdominal aorta, renal, mesenteric, and lower extremity arteries. She is also proficient in permanent dialysis access. Her area of research interest is in medical education, having received certification from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in medical education research in 2014. She has multiple publications in peer reviewed journals within this area of research, most recently published: a comparison of the knowledge base and surgical skills of the integrated versus independent vascular surgery trainees.
