Dr. Salas-Whalen blew me away with her kindness, warmth, and compassion. She listened intently as I recounted my health history and reason for my visit. She is one of a kind, and I wish there were more doctors like her whose work ethic, efficiency, and care for patients was felt immediately and at the forefront of a visit. The office, from reception to nurses, were so kind and quick to respond to my questions and take care of my insurance and blood work. Dr. Salas-Whalen’s office is truly a safe, encouraging, and open space for New Yorkers, and I am so elated to have seen a female doctor who had firsthand experience with the many intricacies of our bodies, minds, and lives. Truly an angel on earth, Dr. Salas-Whalen has motivated me to lead a healthier life and, since my visit on Friday, I’ve implemented directed healthy lifestyle and exercises changes. Excited to see my progress, and I’m lucky to have Dr. Salas-Whalen’s office a subway ride away!

Dr. Salas-Whalen is a triple board-certified physician with broad experience across all facets of endocrinology, with a particular emphasis on obesity, diabetes and thyroid disorders. She believes that every patient is different, and that effective care must be customized according to individual needs. She is a strong advocate for prevention rather than treatment – especially in regard to obesity and diabetes. She performs in-office thyroid ultrasonography and fine needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules.
Dr. Salas-Whalen is an active participant in the continuing advancement of her field and a strong proponent of lifelong career learning. She is a clinical instructor at NYU Langone Hospital.
Dr. Salas-Whalen strongly believe in giving each patient the time and attention they need. For this reason, Dr. Salas-Whalen does not take insurance. We are an out of network practice. Dr. Salas-Whalen speaks English and Spanish fluently. Dr. Salas-Whalen also does telemedicine if you are not local.

I just had my first visit after moving back home and COVID and I’m so thrilled to have found an incredible endo that sees eye-to-eye with my current course of treatment. Her Q&A was thorough with plenty of contextual questions about my environment at home with my family. The consult gave me the confidence that we could work to determine how to best achieve my goals while being sustainable. In this field you need someone to be in your corner and I can undoubtedly say that I feel that after one visit.

I fought for a long time against obesity. I have been living in different countries, and in the United States, It has been challenging to find a caring doctor who will be willing to listen to me for more than 10 minutes. I always felt they were in a rush, or I was a number.
Dr. Rocio took one hour to talk about my situation to understand my particularities, to explain to me how the medicines will work on me. To project a plan, to talk, to listen. Her assistant is very helpful too, helping me with my question about the reimbursement or my medicine refills. Until the moment, the medical plan is working, and I am reaching the expecting goals without sufferance. I didn't felt judged for her or uncomfortable talking with her about my weight. She is warm. I feel I found support and not a judge. I am pleased to have found Dr. Rocio. She also speaks perfect Spanish, which is great for me because I feel more confident explaining my situation.

Dr. Salas-Whalen is so compassionate and knowledgeable. My fiancé and I saw her for her obesity medicine expertise. I felt totally comfortable and I did not feel an ounce of the stigma I encounter in most medical settings. I really appreciated her focus on the underlying science of obesity and PCOS. We are excited to start treatment!
