Dr. Rusdeep Mundae is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained retinal specialist, dedicated to the comprehensive diagnosis and surgical management of retinal and vitreous diseases. His expertise includes advanced treatments for complex retinal detachments, macular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and the repair of complications from cataract surgery including secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.
Dr. Mundae graduated cum laude from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Neuroscience. Prior to medical school, he worked at Genentech where he was involved in the production and bioprocessing of medicines including Avastin, Rituxan, and Actemra—giving him intimate knowledge of these drugs that are commonly used in ophthalmology. He earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he graduated with distinction in medical education. He then pursued his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, where he was recognized with the Vitreoretinal Surgery Foundation Research Award for his contributions to retinal surgery research.
Dr. Mundae completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at New York University, where he trained under world-renowned mentors, including Dr. Lawrence Yannuzzi and Dr. Bailey Freund, at NYU Langone Health and the Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants of New York. He also received extensive training in managing complex diabetic retinal detachments and other challenging medical and surgical retinal cases at Bellevue Hospital, one of the nation's oldest and most historic hospitals.
Dr. Mundae has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in top ophthalmology journals and presented his work at major conferences, including the American Society of Retina Specialists, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has served as an Advocacy Ambassador for the American Academy of Ophthalm
