“Spent almost 2 years with Dr. Ryan Blum. I've had people warn me that all psychiatrists just want to prescribe you medication and be done with it, but that hasn't been my experience with him at all. He's seen me through depressive states, heard out my bouts with anxiety, helped me work through so many of the emotional baggage I got from my parents (let's face it, we all have them), and has only ever patiently guided me through it all. With his help, I have been able to be more understanding of myself and have learned how to let go of the damaging need to be perfect at all times. If any of this sounds familiar or hits home, please make sure you speak to someone like Dr. Blum, who is legitimately qualified to hear out your thoughts. If you're like me, sitting alone with your thoughts can be paralyzing and worse, it can make you just spiral even if you present an excellent front on the outside.”

Getting to know Dr. Ryan Blum

Ryan Blum, M.D. is a psychiatrist who works with adults of all ages in medication management and psychotherapy. He graduated from Harvard College and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Yale University. He completed his residency in adult psychiatry at Yale in 2016. He has worked in a variety of public and private settings and taught students and residents at Yale, UCSF, and OHSU in Portland, Oregon, where he currently lives and practices full time. He believes that good psychiatry involves building a deep understanding of who you are and how you developed into this person. He believes that the medical model of psychiatric illness can be helpful but often falls short in explaining how symptoms and illness are playing a role in your life. Please note that Dr. Blum sees California residents via telemedicine only, and his availability for individual psychotherapy is limited.
