More about Dr. S. Shane Konrad, MD

During this time, Williamsburg Therapy Group is offering teletherapy options. "Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy--the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light." --Dr. Brené Brown. I could not have said it better myself. Our inner resistance to facing our fears and vulnerabilities includes the initial resistance to reach out for help. I completed my general psychiatry training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. I also completed subspecialty fellowship training at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the New York University School of Medicine. I specialize in treating young adults & adults for a wide variety of issues including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, ADHD, substance abuse disorders, and LGBT issues. My treatment philosophy is to take a holistic approach to patient care which includes psychotherapy, proper diet and exercise, and for some patients, medication management. I help each patient utilize individual strengths and problem solve by integrating aspects of their affective, cognitive, behavioral, and physiological systems.

Great physician! Knowledgeable and approachable with an emphasis on creating a partnership with patient. He was very thorough and easy to communicate with.
After a number of failed appointments with other Psychiatrists, I went to Dr. Konrad on the recommendation of my therapist. I can't say how thankful I am to have him in my corner. He does a fantastic job of explaining what the medications do and how they work and why he thinks the dose or the specific medication will be helpful for me. He is responsive via email as well if needed between sessions.
Really good listener, and never any pressure, but really reads into how the meds are working by our overall conversation and will explain his decisions.
Very warm and welcoming, highly recommended
This was only my second time seeing him, but so far he's been excellent. I've put off seeing someone for a long time simply due to the fact that I thought it would be an arduous process - i've seemed to have lucked out with Dr. Konrad though. As mentioned, I've only seen him twice now but he seems to genuinely care and is extremely thorough in what he does. Only compliant is that I wish the session lasted longer and I could see him more often (none of which is actually his fault of course!)
Excellent and caring clinician. Willing to work with patient at pace and needs of patient. Always available for needed contact between appointments.
Dr.Konrad listens, answers questions and is very open about proposed treatments and hopeful outcomes. He is really part of he new generation of skilled psychotherapists.
dr. Konrad is obviously interested in supporting patients to feel better. He knows this can be an ongoing and long process, and is willing to work with patient in various ways. Dr. Konrad uses a combination of traditoinal western meds, wit talk therapy and diet exercise to support mental health.
My first visit with Dr. Conrad was very positive. He is a great listener and very organized. I look forward to my next follow up meeting.
He's just solid all around. Good bedside manner, listens to you intently, and love how he lets you manage your appointments on Zocdoc--very efficient. Highly recommend Dr. Konrad.
I would highly recommend Dr. Konrad to anyone. In the past I felt indifferent about upcoming appointments with my previous doctor. Now, I actually look forward to appointments after switching to Dr. Konrad. Sessions with Dr. Konrad feel like a conversation with a friend. I leave sessions with confidence Im making progress. It's Dr. Konrad's bedside manner that makes it so easy to share (usually) uncomfortable subjects with ease and actually make progress with his professional advice.
**I would like my review to remain anonymous, please.** Dr. Konrad is friendly, easy to talk to, and respectful. He is approachable and made me feel comfortable sharing aspects of my life that I usually keep to myself. He listened and made me feel understood and accepted. Dr. Konrad did not try to convince me to take medication. However, after a few sessions I decided that medication could be helpful and he took the time to educate me and make sure I was well-informed about my treatment options.
Definitely a great smart guy. very smart and asked the right questions initially. i was nervous about opening up but he is a comforatbly person to speak to.
