Getting to know Sara Powers

Hello, I’m Sara, a compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to your holistic well-being. With deep empathy and an open heart, I listen without judgment, honoring your concerns, goals, and unique needs as we collaborate on evidence-based care, including medication management, therapy, nutrition, mindfulness, and lifestyle supports tailored to your values; together, we’ll navigate challenges, celebrate progress, and build a balanced, fulfilling life—reach out today!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe the most important part of care is making sure you feel heard and understood. My approach is collaborative—we’ll work together to create a plan that fits your needs, goals, and comfort level. I strive to provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly about your concerns. My role is to guide, support, and offer medical expertise, while also respecting your perspective and preferences every step of the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical first visit (intake) is scheduled for 60 minutes so we have enough time to really get to know you without feeling rushed. During this session, I’ll ask a variety of questions to better understand your overall history—this may include your childhood, medical background, mental health history, and any current symptoms or challenges you’re experiencing. This thorough approach helps me make an accurate diagnosis and understand the full picture of your well-being. I do incorporate talk therapy into my practice, and we may begin exploring helpful strategies or possible solutions during this first visit. At the end of the session, we’ll work together to create a treatment plan that feels right to both of us. Follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes and focus on checking in on your symptoms, how you’re feeling, and how you’re responding to any medications if prescribed. If needed, follow-up appointments can be scheduled for a longer time to ensure you have the support you need.

I handle billing through Headway, which helps process your visits through your insurance plan. They will verify your benefits, submit claims, and provide you with information about any copays or out-of-pocket costs ahead of time when possible. If you prefer not to use insurance or if I’m out of network with your plan, I also offer a self-pay option. I’m happy to discuss those rates with you and help you decide what works best for your situation. If you have any questions about coverage, costs, or payment options, please feel free to ask—I want to make this process as simple and transparent as possible.
