Dr. Sarah Bortz is a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who has provided care for those with mental health concerns for the majority of her career. Sarah began her career as a mental health nurse in a state psychiatric hospital for children. There, she developed a bond with the teenage girls she worked with, many having a history of trauma and abuse. Sarah then moved to Arizona and built her career working with Veterans. She spent 10 years at the Phoenix VA Medical Center, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Sarah has worked with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder, eating disorders, and substance use disorder. Her passion and desire to do more for people inspired her to return to school and obtain her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix Campus. She also holds a Bachelor's degree from Grand Canyon University.
Sarah understands the fundamental truth that people need to feel heard. The journey to your well-being cannot happen without your buy-in. She recognizes how strong and resilient people can be but also knows we often forget that truth. It is OK to not be OK, as long as you keep moving forward.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her friends and family, exploring the valley and beyond. She loves trying new restaurants with her husband and children, painting, and reading a good book.
