More about Dr. Sarah Masoodsinaki, MD

I earned my medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran. I then moved to the United States to complete my residency in psychiatry. Following my residency I completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry and another one in addiction psychiatry. Given my deep interest in understanding and learning the holistic approach to patient care, I am now pursuing training in psychoanalysis and integrative medicine. I am certified in general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I believe that a good practice of psychiatry includes a comprehensive interview of the patient, which may take more than one session, during which the psychiatrist understands the patient and the patient’s suffering from different perspectives. In my opinion a decent psychiatric care is made up of controlling severe symptoms of psychiatric disorders with medicines in order to give the patient and the psychiatrist enough of calmness, serenity, and the room to explore with effective psychotherapy the root causes of the suffering. I believe this can help the patient hopefully recover from the suffering. This approach helps me see each one of my patients as a unique individual that he or she is, and tailor the treatment to the exact need of that patient. At the same time that I prescribe medications for some of my patients, I enjoy working with clients who wish to be in psychotherapy in order to gain insight into their suffering. Except for rare cases, I don't believe that patients need to be on medications for ever. I attempt to help my patients, in the process of psychotherapy and treatment, find the meaning in their lives and be able to enjoy their path and contribute to others and the society.
