Stephanie Swanson is great. She helped me understand what has/is going on with me. She’s very patient with all of my questions. It’s never fun going to the GYN as most woman feel. We just want it over with. I’m so happy I found this doctor as I just recently moved to VA. I feel more educated and just better, overall.

Dr.Swanson is a native of Reston, and long-time friend of Virginia Women’s Health Associates. She has a wide variety of interests within the specialty of OB/GYN, including prenatal care and gynecologic surgery – particularly minimally invasive techniques to include DaVinci robotic surgery.
Dr. Swanson’s care philosophy is an empowering, patient-centered one. She strongly believes in and enjoys educating patients so that they may take charge of their health and pregnancy.
After earning her Undergraduate Degree in Biology from James Madison University, Dr. Swanson went on to earn her Medical Degree from Easter Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. After completing her OB/GYN residency in the Philadelphia suburbs, she moved back home to Northern Virginia and began practicing medicine.
Married with a young son and energetic Tibetan terrier, Dr. Swanson enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and swimming

I just do not have enough wonderful things to say about Dr. Swanson. I saw her through both my pregnancies, one with minor complications. Through those complications she remained calm, explained everything well, and answered my 1,000 questions without making me feel like I was taking up all of her time.
She's easy to talk to and actually listens to your concerns without brushing them off. I continue driving 20 minutes to see her over other doctors.

This was my first time seeing Dr Swanson and she was wonderful! I had about 10,000 questions and was pretty overwhelmed when I came in. She saw me right away, literally no wait time at all. The office staff was friendly, helpful, professional and quick. Dr Swanson was so kind and patient with me, answering all my questions very thoroughly and made me feel so calm and comfortable. She never rushed me or pressured me about anything. She was so understanding and helpful, and the exam portion was quick and gentle. I am incredibly happy with her!!

I am a fan of VA Women’s Health in general but this was my first appointment with Dr. Swanson. She was personable and helpful. She laughed at my husbands jokes and still gave information in a professional manner. My only complaint is the wait, but I feel like that is part of going to an OBGYN. They can’t determine when babies will come and it messes with their schedules regularly. As a pregnant woman, I am grateful that they do their best to take care of the women in labor and am okay waiting some.

Dr. Swanson has guided me through some scary, stressful health issues this last year with great support. She really understands what I need to hear and know so I am well informed and prepared but not stressed. I think the tests she orders are appropriate, she and the staff are responsive, the wait was a bit long last time but that has never happened before. I always get prompt attention and help from the staff, and the office is wonderful, honestly reminds me of a spa. Excellent care, I am really confident trusting the entire team with my health.

I waited barely 2 minutes, nurse was quiet and cordial. Dr. Swanson was very kind, treated me well and had a lovely bedside manner. It was my first time meeting her and I figured I would need to have an initial appointment and would then need to reschedule a follow-up for a small procedure. I was thrilled that she didn't require a 2nd appointment and performed the procedure right then! Dr. Swanson even answered a few unrelated questions for me regarding my daughter's health, too. I highly recommend her and her staff!

I love Dr. Swanson. She clearly cares and takes the time to explain and answer any questions. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as impressed with the rest of the staff as I was with Dr. Swanson. With the exception of the nice young woman who checked me into my appointment when I arrived, I felt like the woman who brought me back for my appointment was less than interested in what I had to say or why I was there. I also work in the medical field and know how tiring it can be to see patients all day, but I also know how easy it is to make a patient feel welcomed. I will return to see Dr. Swanson in the future, but I hope to see better conduct from the staff.

Although I have only been a patient for a short time, I trust Dr. Swanson completely. When I was in an emergency situation with preeclampsia, Dr. Swanson calmly and clearly explained our options and her recommendations. She did not sugarcoat or try to minimize the severity of the situation. She listened closely to my unique concerns and did not mind talking through my questions but maintained her efficiency. She was precise and inspired confidence during and extremely stressful time.
During follow-up appointments, when the concern shifted to monitoring for postpartum depression, Dr. Swanson went out of her way to be less clinical and more emotionally encouraging and supportive. She is a detail-oriented, no-nonsense personality who really cares for her patients. I appreciate her balanced approach and her calm demeanor.
