Dr. Kaufman is a Professor and Vice-Chairman of Ophthalmology and the Director of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service at the State University of New York - Downstate, where he has a University and Private Practice. Dr. Kaufman completed a Fellowship in Cornea, Anterior Segment, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the Department of Ophthalmology, LSU Eye Center, Louisiana State University Medical Center.
Dr. Kaufman is a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Paton Society, the Cornea Society, the HEED Society of Ophthalmology Fellows, the Eye Bank Association of America, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the National Keratoconus Foundation, and the Midwest and Northeast Cornea Society. He has received numerous awards and lectureships.
Dr Kaufman has published more than 10 Cornea and Refractive Surgery book chapters and published and presented more than 200 papers and abstracts in his field. He presents his research and instructional courses at national and international meetings.

I was a little apprehensive going into his office, only because I needed to find a doctor as soon as possible, and one that was close to my place of work. I went online and found Dr. Kaufman through Zocdoc, awesome!!! I did all medical background info, insurance info online. I received an appointment confirmation, all without speaking to soul! I am extremely conscious about hygiene I observed that every instrument that was used on me was immaculately cleaned prior to use and after use. That says it all for me! Dr. Kaufman is very engaging and I felt comfortable. I am very happy!

Dr. Kaufman has a great bedside manner and is very through. He explained everything and even answered questions that had nothing to do with what I came for (a prescription). As I was going through the exams he was patience and he explained each exam before performing it. He even spoke to me about things to look out for and how to prevent other potential problems. He could have rushed my exam since he has more serious cases but didn't. I am happy with the service and will be back. The receptionist was pleasant and clear. Dr. Kaufman's wife was also very nice.

First I was seen by Dr. Kaufman's assistant, who did a standard vision test. Then I saw Dr. Kaufman and he explained the condition affecting my vision and made recommendations. The office was clean and wait was short. My only minor complaint is that I had to fill out several forms although I had done in Zocdoc.

From start to finish it was by far the most pleasant medical appointment I have experienced in years.
upon my arrival I was met by Stephanie, very friendly and professional.

Loved my visit! I came to Dr. Kaufman's for a general checkup and to get a new eyeglass prescription. Dr. Kaufman and Dr. Rizzidi were excellent in not only giving me a thorough examination, but also took the time to explain my eye health in a way that was easy to understand and informative all at once. I've never once had an eye doctor take the time to really help me understand what I should be aware of and how to best take care of my vision. Highly recommend to everyone!!

The office is nice and clean. The doctor's assistant Stephanie was really nice and friendly, same as the doctor. There was no wait time, which was a great surprise because the biggest downside scheduling through ZocDoc is usually the wait time, since you are squeezed in between the regular patients. Overall, I would definitely recommend this office but keep in mind that they won't be able to get you contacts prescription since they don't have any in the office.
