Stephen Stacey, MD is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in orthopedic trauma. Dr. Stacey initially went to school at Duke University and received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical engineering. He went on to get a Masters of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2006. Dr. Stacey worked at Ford Motor Company helping to design the safety features in automobiles and worked extensively around injury causation and prevention. It was through this work that he was introduced to working with orthopedic trauma surgeons. He then knew he had found his true passion.
Becoming an orthopedic surgeon would allow him to practice injury care in a more meaningful way. Dr. Stacey went back to medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School and then completed his orthopedic residency at the Medical University of South Carolina before moving to Denver to complete an Orthopedics trauma fellowship at Denver Health.
Dr. Stacey enjoys work as a trauma surgeon because the problems he sees are often clearly evident and he has the immediate opportunity to help the patient. Another reason Dr. Stacey enjoys working as an orthopedic traumatologist is that he has the opportunity to treat the entire body, instead of only one isolated area. This allows him to focus on treating the patient as a whole. It is especially important that Dr. Stacey gets to know his patients and understands their lifestyle, goals and expectations after a serious injury. Understanding where the patient is now and where they would like to be helps to reach the most satisfying outcome for the patient.
Dr. Stacey grew up playing hockey and baseball. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and loves the Colorado lifestyle and enjoys spending time with his family and two young children.
