Steven K. Booton, M.D., is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Born and raised in Ft. Worth, TX, he graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio and received his medical degree in 1983 from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. He did his internal medicine residency in San Antonio at the UT Health Science Center. He was on the faculty of the Department of Medicine from 1989 until 1992. In 1993 he moved to Austin where he has been in private practice ever since. In 1993 he was named a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, an honorary distinction awarded by the national organization that represents internists.
Dr. Booton’s special area of interest is in doctor-patient communication. He is interested in addressing ways to strengthen the relationship between doctors and patients. While a faculty member at the medical school in San Antonio, he taught courses in communication skills to students, residents and practicing physicians.
Dr. Booton is an avid golfer. He and his wife Ginny enjoy traveling, reading and spending time with their dog.

The doctor was very concern about everything and asked many questions to learn about my health. His examination was detailed and complete. The techniques of inspection include palpation (feeling with the hands and/or fingers), percussion (tapping with the fingers), auscultation (listening), and smell.

It just nice that a physician is attentive, and not treating you as another insurance claim. I look forward to have a doctor I can build a relationship for years with, which is very difficult with how the medical field is overrun with insurance policies. I enjoy his calm and patient demeanor and thorough with a basic physical annual exam. My previous physician did not even touch me...then charged for a specialist referral that I never received. I have had to see many doctors unfortunately. I have seen specialist, surgeons, etc. I have been a skeptic of Primary Care DRs because of past experiences. However, Dr. Booton has been really helpful in listening to how I "say" I am feeling, not just looking at the tests and medical charts. Office was short-staffed and took about 10mins to greet me, even though I was the only patient waiting. Very friendly and helpful, and let me know what to expect. Took only a few minutes after paperwork was filled out to be called back.
After waiting about 10mins in the waiting room, the doctor came in. Dr. Booten was very thorough, asked a lot of good questions, and created a comprehensive understanding of my symptoms and history. He addressed my concerns in ways I could clearly understand, and put together logical next steps in terms of diagnosing my issues step by step. He is actually interested in digging deeper into issues, instead of just throwing medication at the problem.
I'm looking forward to working further with him to help solve some of these issues!

Before my visit, I read several other reviews that spoke about Booton's terrible bedside manner. I'm a pragmatic person, so I didn't pay this too much attention.
It was obvious once I got there that his bedside manner was indeed terrible, but the real problem is that it all stemmed from him just not caring. He dismissed my questions and hardly looked me in the eye the entire time. I had some results from blood work I had done independently with my own money (because I'm interested in reaching my optimum health), and he rejected it out of hand, saying I had wasted my money.
His goal was clearly just to make sure I wasn't about to die. He didn't care about anything to do with optimizing my health and preventing future problems. He was 25 minutes late to the appointment and clearly was rushing through it so he could be less late to the next one. I'm definitely not coming back.
