My professional goal is to give the best possible and appropriate care to my patients. As an Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeon, my practice has evolved over the past 30 years to focus on minimally invasive surgery of the sinuses and skull base. It has been my honor to be among the first physicians in the United States to perform such surgeries and to train many of the physicians throughout the world. As the author of the first textbook on endoscopic sinus surgery, and subsequently five other related textbooks, on minimally invasive surgery, I have refined my medical and surgical practice to concentrate on the most timely and beneficial care for patients. To this end, I have also authored more than 150 articles on surgical and medical treatment, and I continue to train physicians yearly in all parts of the world.

Dr. Schaefer took more time filling out his medical forms than he did assessing what's bothering me. Considering the high cost of a checkup (over $1K), I don't feel that the doctor has demonstrated any special knowledge in the field. It seems evident that Dr. Schaefer is more concerned about a potential legal liability (something he specifically mentioned to me when I asked him, an ENT, to assess my ear pains), than he is about the well-being of his patients.

I waited for an hour to see him, and he didn't even apologize for the wait. The appointment was about 10 minutes long and he was extremely rude, condescending and not helpful.

The actual wait time was not that long once I got through a very detailed form completion process regarding history issues. When I met with Dr. Schaeffer he could not have been more welcoming or more informative. I went to him on the recommendation of someone who had been through several operations by others and was finally "fixed" by Dr. Schaeffer. The purpose of the visit was to get a second opinion on CT scans and recommended treatment by another ENT expert. The other doc was good and well credentialed and recommended BUT Dr. Schaeffer spent more time going over the meaning of the CT scan and the options and the reasons for the options. He seemed to me to be practicing at a higher level than the other. I am a sophisticated consumer of medical services with no prior relationship to Dr. Schaeffer. I was impressed.

Wonderful, outstanding doctor! He took time to really understand my concerns and explain everything to me every step of the way. His bedside manner was professional, warm and caring, and the office staff was likewise super nice and helpful. I left the appointment feeling I was in the best of hands. I would recommend this practice to anyone in a hearbeat.

I only wish all doctors were like Dr Schaefer. He has helped me in ways that others have failed. He is knowledgable and confident. He always has a smile, positive attitude and shares with me ways to help myself. We have been through 2 surgeries together and have to say Dr Schaefer, his office staff and the team at Manhattan Eye & Ear are true professionals. I travel from NC to see him and he is worth the trip!

A really pleasant experience. I found the doctor off the web for a minor persistent issue when my own primary care doctor didn't give me a referral. He was informative, thorough and very hospitable. I was very grateful especially after I realized how highly specialized the practice is and my issue was the ear equivalent of a paper cut. He treated me with all the same concern and attention he would of a more serious case. Highly recommend.

Dr. Schaefer was great! He was very friendly and asked detailed questions. He seemed to thoroughly go through each detail in my new-patient forms and seemed to systematically analyze each detail. While I'll hopefully be healthy, I would definitely see Dr. Schaefer again if I had to.
