Steven A. Shanbom, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataracts and refractive surgery. He attended Wayne State University School of Medicine, followed by residencies in internal medicine and ophthalmology at Sinai Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Shanbom has the rare combination of board certification in both internal medicine and ophthalmology. He has served as assistant professor at Kresge Eye Institute and Michigan State University.
Dr. Shanbom has extensive experience in refractive surgery. He has performed over 18,000 vision correction procedures. While at Sinai Hospital, he was involved in the FDA trials of the Excimer laser used for Lasik surgery. He continues to stay at the forefront of refractive surgery by lecturing and attending seminars on the latest ophthalmology procedures. Dr. Shanbom performs Advanced Cataract Surgery, Lasik, PRK, and refractive implant surgery.
Dr. Shanbom is a Lasik patient himself. He now enjoys excellent vision without glasses and can better appreciate the needs and expectations of his ophthalmology patients.
