Dr. Steven Shayani is the Medical Director of Mount Sinai Doctors LIHA and serves as The Mount Sinai Hospital Director of Outpatient Services for Long Island. He is board certified in the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Shayani is also a distinguished Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the American Society for Preventive Cardiology.
Dr. Shayani completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and his Cardiology Fellowship at Winthrop University Hospital. In addition, his post-graduate training was at the Electrophysiology Lab at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Dr. Shayani specializes in atherosclerosis, cardiac arrhythmia, metabolic syndrome, hypercholesterolemia, congestive heart failure, and myocardial infarction and he has lectured extensively on these topics. He also maintains the highest level of expertise in the areas of Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac CT Imaging and continues to been an innovator in his field.
As the Chairman and President of New York Heart Research Foundation (NYHRF) since 2002 Dr. Shayani has been the principal investigator for a multitude of national and international clinical trials. As a young cardiologist he saw the hardships that lie ahead when trying to diagnose early stage atherosclerotic heart disease. While it is unusual to be directly involved in cardiovascular research as a clinical cardiologist, it is his passion for prevention that drew him to this field.
