Dr. Steven Svabek is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who treats general orthopedic issues and specializes in diseases and disorders of the spine. He is fellowship trained in spine surgery.
Dr. Svabek graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991. He completed his internship at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia in 1992. His orthopedic residency program was completed from 1992-1997 at St. Vincent Hospital/Cabrina Medical Center as well as North Shore University in New York City. During that time period he also completed a year of general surgery training as a part of his program requirement. Dr. Svabek completed the final phase of his training in a spine fellowship at University of Colorado in 1998.
His spine fellowship training allows him to evaluate diseases of the spine including, but not limited to, scoliosis. Surgeries of the spine that Dr. Svabek routinely performs include discectomies, decompressions of the spine and nerve roots, and spinal fusion.

He was very detailed in exam of my problem shoulder and taking details of the types of activity I do. The stafff was very friendly as well. Very pleasant experience.

Took my 88 year old Mom to office, yesterday, for a steroid injection in left knee, due to severe arthritis. She is not a candidate for knee replacement due to other health issues.
Office staff was very impersonal, and one lady was very rude. Kept us waiting for over an hour. We were given a very hard time, too, since this Doctor does NOT carry Malpractice insurance and refused to see my Mom unless she agreed to waive her legal rights, if taken to court. When I told the office, my Mom was in extreme pain and we were referred by DocZoc, and I knew they would not be pleased that a patient referral was turned away because the patient refused to waive legal rights, the Doctor agreed to see her.
My Mom is not an easy lady to deal with, as she has some Dimentia and can be rude at times , herself. The Doctor was not sensitive to her condition, and was quite sarcastic in his communications with her. i had to act as a referee, at times. it was very unsettling! in addition, after giving her the injection for her sever knee pain, he prescribed meds without checking her history or questioning her other meds, and turns out, this medication should not be perrscribed to someone with Asthma. They could have a reaction, and Die!
I would stay clear of this Doctor and his office. Mom will see another Doctor in a month! Beware, unless you like feeling verbally abused and treated rudely, without respect!
