I am an Ivy league educated and trained internist with 25 years experience and have worked for over 15 years in my current location. My current practice is focused on Addiction medicine
My specialty interests involve treating addictive disorders of all types. I am one of a handful of doctors fully board certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine and became the first doctor on Long Island to prescribe Suboxone. I prefer Suboxone weaning over maintenance, and have long established protocols that use non-addictive drugs, to accomplish this. However, I believe it is the patient's choice, not mine, that determines the ultimate goal for treatment.
I also have well established and effective protocols for detoxification of alcohol, sedatives (such as Xanax, Ambien, Soma, Fioricet and many others), stimulants and marijuana-all on an outpatient basis. Vivitrol shots, and other medications to maintain abstinence, are also used.
Obesity is viewed as a chronic disorder and a long term risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Overeating behavior is viewed as a chronic addiction. Treatment requires a long term, multi-pronged approach using medication, diet and exercise. My expertise is to use several different medications, in combination, to suppress appetite. This leads to a loss of 10% of starting weight, or greater, in more than half the patients who initiate therapy with me.
