Dr. Tara Abella has a passion for women’s health care and enjoys providing personal and complete care to female patients of all ages as they progress from adolescence through the post-menopausal years. She has superb skills in all areas of obstetrics and gynecology, including non-invasive and laparoscopic surgery. She is committed to excellence by addressing each patient’s individual needs and concerns.
Dr. Abella earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and her M.D. degree from St. Georges University School of Medicine. After graduating from medical school, she went on to complete an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.
In her free time, she is an avid reader and enjoys seeing movies and traveling with her husband, Adam. She was born in New York, and after growing up in the Los Angeles area, she returned to her East Coast roots seven years ago. Today Dr. Abella, her husband and their young children reside in Essex County, NJ.

Dr Abella was fantastic! After going to the same gyn for over 12 years and the doctor retiring without informing patients, I was dreading having to start at a new practice at this stage of my life. Dr Abella is so warm and friendly and immediately puts you at ease. The office is brand new, and. super clean. I was pleasantly surprised that she has a warming drawer for the speculum. No more clod plastic!

Doctor is good but to meet the her I had to go through lot of struggle. I took my appointment in December for west orange office center but I came to know that they have move to Livingston during my appointment @ 5:30 pm on March 6th after reaching the locked west orange office. I tried calling them but it went to voice mail. I stepped into the next suite a dental office to find out that they moved to Livingston a month back. They spoke to the new office staff & gave me the new address. I reached their new office after great find in the huge building where they located in " north wing" 200 S. Orange Ave. Livingston. Neither Zoc doc or Office staff reached out to me to update about their new office move. Again I had to fill all papers even though I finished them in zocdoc. Their staff don't have any basic browsing skills in technology to update their location details or print my personal details in zocdoc. I lost 90 minutes of my precious time for 15minutes of worth of visit. And more importantly I'm not the only one on that evening to go through all these struggle, the very next patient also had a similar struggle in locating the new office & she was also fed up by not receiving any update on moving their office to new location. Be ready new patient!

I transferred to Dr.Abella when I was 7.5 months pregnant. She took great care of me and did everything to make sure my pregnancy as well as delivery went great. She had to perform a C section because my baby was too heavy and she did a tremendous job in that as well. Its difficult to get her appointments for regular checkups but she always is available for helping. She always has a smile and is very personable. I could not be happier with my OBG. She is absolutely great.

I loved Dr. Abella! Came in for a Pap smear and annual as a first time patient. She was thorough and patient and funny and sweet, and she put me completely at ease right away. Really took the time to nail down my medical history, which is a little complicated. The drive to her took 35 minutes for me but it was totally worth all the time and gas money. I couldn't imagine wanting to see anyone else. On a slightly less positive note, her phlebotomists a could be a little bit better. But at least they do their blood work in-house.
