Dr. Alkousakis has been in private practice in Colorado for over 3 years. He completed his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, which is renowned for its excellent clinical dermatology training. He received his MD from the University of Southern California, graduating with Highest Distinction (summa cum laude), and holds a Bachelor Science from Stanford University.
Dr. Alkousakis has worked on online teaching aids for medical students and has had an interest in telemedicine since residency, when he saw patients drive for hours to receive their care. His areas of interest include lasers, phototherapy, vitiligo, plants and creatures, and enjoys surgical treatment of skin cancer. While still a resident he presented at national meetings and reviewed articles for publication. Dr. A is an online editor for the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology. He is fluent in Greek, can converse with patients in Russian and knows medical Spanish. Dermatology, he says, “allows you to treat everything from cancers in the elderly and debilitating skin disease in adults, to diaper rashes in a baby”.
Derm E Consult was created to combine “Dr. A’s” interests and to fill the need for both online access in today’s world to dermatologists and to reach out to under served areas. Through cooperation with large hospital systems and small rural clinics a network of online referrals, teledermatology support and in person consults and surgery sites is being developed. To compliment all this he continues to see patients in private practice in Littleton, CO at Peak Dermatology and recently joined the faculty of the University of Colorado Department of Dermatology, working there part time as an assistant clinical professor.
