More about Dr. Titilayo Adegboyega, MD

Titilayo Adegboyega, MD, is the chief of colorectal surgery at South Shore University Hospital. A board-certified colorectal surgeon, she specializes in treating cancer of the colon, rectum and anus, and benign conditions such as colon polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, rectal prolapse, hemorrhoids, anal fissures and fistulas, and pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Adegboyega became interested in medicine as a child in her native Nigeria. "I had a play doctor kit," she says. "My mother worked in a hospital, so I was exposed to the health care system and aspired to influence what it could become." In part thanks to this early influence, she maintains a deep interest in public health, especially in our increasingly globally connected society. Before joining Northwell in 2016, Dr. Adegboyega graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School. She then went on to complete her general surgery residency at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center and a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Rhode Island Hospital, the main teaching hospital of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Adegboyega works with a variety of health care providers to maximize her patients' care. For those who have cancer, she collaborates with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists and other specialists to develop a comprehensive treatment plan using the latest approaches to care. She may also work with gastroenterologists and urogynecologists, depending on a patient's condition. Whenever possible, Dr. Adegboyega performs minimally invasive surgical procedures, including robotic and laparoscopic approaches. She also specializes in colostomy and ileostomy reversal surgery and diagnostic procedures, such as colonoscopy.
