After growing up immersed in a family devoted to eye care in the Chicagoland area, Tyler Kirk has returned to the practice at Kirk Eye Center where he watched his father, uncle, and grandfather care for patients as a boy. The oldest son of Dr. Scott H. Kirk, Tyler is the first of the third generation of Kirk ophthalmologists.
After eight years in Virginia, Tyler moved farther South to complete is internship and residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Mississippi in Jackson. Here Tyler served as chief resident, and developed special interests in cataract and the glaucomas. Seeking additional training in these areas, Tyler spent a fellowship year under the tutelage of world-renown surgeon, Garry P. Condon, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Here Tyler helped develop novel surgical techniques which were presented at the 2012 American Glaucoma Society meeting, and accepted for publication into the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Tyler is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Glaucoma Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He brings an enthusiasm for treating difficult and advanced glaucoma and anterior segment pathology to the Kirk Eye Center, and is proud to carry on the family tradition begun by his grandfather, Harold Q. Kirk. In his free time Tyler likes to remain active, enjoying distance running, cycling, and tennis. He continues to study history, and is active in his church.
