Dr. Uma Kumarappan is a psychiatrist in private practice in Fairfax, VA. Dr. Kumarappan was born and raised in India. She received her medical degree from the P.S.Govindasamy Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. She then completed an internship in psychiatry at Bergen Regional Medical Center and a residency in psychiatry at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Kumarappan and her husband, who is an engineer, are the parents of two children. Dr. Kumarappan speaks English and Tamil.

The dr. was kind and caring but she did prescribe a few different medications in the first appointment for several different conditions with no discussion of easing on to one medication at a time, or more holistic options. I feel like certain conditions could be diagnosed with a more thorough and patient approach. If you are looking for someone with a cautious/judicious approach to medication perhaps not the right dr. for you.

She seems very well meaning, but like most psychiatrists in this area, she has so many clients she can’t keep them straight. Been there three times now and she still asks me what I do for a living. So it’s hard to build a relationship that way. She is nice though and if I were a little more open to opening up it would probably be better, but she doesn’t overly pry (which I sometimes need). My initial visit she tried to push tons of meds, I didn’t need any of them and since the initial no’s on the first visit she has left it up to me to bring up if I am interested in any other medications.

Always the best time there, and the best help you in right away low wait time if any. Gets you in talks for about 15- 45 mins very caring, and really does want whats best for you, Always goes over how meds are working for me. Just all around amazing office and of course its always a wonderful time when her regular receptionist is there...One of the best people ever! and this new doctor i I have seen twice now....She's older white lady who I love with all my heart...she really cares about people.

Loved her as usual such a sweet, nice, and actually caring doctor..She honestly makes you feel safe,and that you can tell her anything without being judged. She has a therapist I think it is, and she sat in on my last session with my permission of course. She was amazing as well and I plan to be making an appointment after next year when i do my health insurance stuff, but that's besides the point. Everyone in that office even the receptionist are professional,nice, understanding and probably the best in the area!
