Veronica was born and raised in New York City. She graduated from Dominican College, cum laude, with a dual major in Biology and Psychology. She attended New York School of
Optometry in Manhattan and completed her training at the top of her clinical class. Shortly thereafter, she secured a position as Clinical Director for the largest refractive surgery practice in New York, Vista Eye Care Associates. During her time there, she worked closely with the FDA on new innovative procedures, not yet approved in the United States. She published and presented her findings to ophthalmologists from around the world. After five years at Vista, she relocated to Miami, Florida where her Hispanic background proved to be essential in working with the Latin community there.
Over the last five years, Veronica has traveled to Peru, India and Brasil conducting free eye clinics and various volunteer missions while living in ashrams, and created the non profit, ThirdEyeVision Foundation. It was during these trips that she was exposed to, became knowledgeable in, and was inspired by local artisans and their traditions. While preserving the concept of sustainability, Veronica began designing her own line of yoga clothing and meditation accessories, one that reflected her urban style while maintaining the respected spiritual environment in which they were to be worn. AshramChic seemed the perfect name for this new yoga lifestyle company and would become a vehicle in which funds could be raised to help her philanthropic work with ThirdEyeVision.

My first visit for my annual eye exam was very pleasant. The office is calming and the receptionist staff was welcoming. I had to wait 20-30 min after my scheduled appointment time to be seen by the doctor but I didn’t mind because the office was comfortable. Dr. Ruelas was very professional and did a thorough job. I left with a trial pair of contacts and happy with my experience.
About 3 days later after wearing the new contacts I noticed redness in both eyes that progressively got worse and worse. I have very sensitive eyes and suspected I was having a reaction to the new contacts. I called Monday morning and left a message. I did not hear back so called again Monday evening before close and left another message. Tuesday I called again after no return calls and was told I would have to wait 3 more hours for someone to help me to schedule an appointment. At this point, my eyes were very painful and uncomfortable and I could not go to work. I had to schedule an emergent appointment with another office in order to be seen as soon as possible. When I was given a call back Tuesday afternoon the receptionist told me she was “off on the weekends and the new person she was training would have had to go into the machine and listen to all the messages”. I don’t know why she made such a poor excuse for the late response and seemed to brush off the urgency of my calls. Afterwards, I asked to be sent my prescription information so I could order new contacts. Lisa said she would email it to me but it took two more calls and another day to receive my records. Would not recommend.

They told me to come in for my annual eye check up but when I got there they told me that it had been less than a year since my last one so my insurance wouldn't cover it. I'm not sure why they told me if was time to book my appointment but the receptionist didn't charge me for coming in and booked me for an appointment later in the year. It was a waste of my time, but they were pretty nice about it.

Dr. Veronica Ruelas is incredibly nice and dynamic. She actually listens to you and gives honest, genuine feedback. It's a beautiful environment in 3rd eye Optometry. As an extra perk when you arrive her friendly staff offers you coffee or tea. This is the kind of experience you hope for when you go to the doctor. Highly recommended!

It was a pleasure getting my annual eye exam and contact lens fitting with Dr Ruelas. She was very deliberate with recommendations around prescriptions (i.e. whether it was time to get progressive lenses and the possible drawbacks of doing so) and choice of contacts. Lisa, at reception, was also super pleasant and professional with the entire visit. Found my new family optometrist and eyeglass store (artsee is awesome).

Dr. Ruelas receptionist was very friendly and upbeat. They have advanced technology and also tablets for you to fill out the customary doctor's office forms. The office is beautifully decorated and has a focus on holistic remedies. Dr. Ruelas works efficiently and gets to understand patient needs. I look forward to Dr. Ruelas being my ongoing optometrist or eye care needs.

Dr. Ruelas was excellent. Very warm and personable, extremely well-versed in older eyecare and did a really thorough exam in her state of the art (and gorgeous) office.
Lisa, the office manager (CIO) was also very impressive and warm. She's also extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and made everything so smooth and efficient.
This is not your standard eye doctor or eyewear office. Upscale and highly personalized, you'll feel very special here.
