During her training there, she served as Chief Resident in Outpatient Psychiatry and was instrumental in forging an alliance between the General Psychiatry Outpatient Clinics and the Consultation-Liason Service set up through the Jack Martin Clinic serving HIV pts with mental illness. After completing her residency, she received the prestigious David Kairys Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence in Medicine, an award given out to one resident per year.
Following residency, she trained at Columbia University, where she was a fellow in the Public Psychiatry program. This unique fellowship was the the only one of its kind to deal with the homeless populations who were also beset with mental challenges. After her fellowship, she continued to work with the non-profit organization FEGS and served homeless populations in housing facilities in the Bronx and Manhattan for over six years. Also during that time, Dr. Milau set up her private practice in Adult General Psychiatry, and has since been practicing on the upper east side of Manhattan for the last 15 years.
In addition to her background in standard clinical Western medicine, she has an ongoing interest in alternative medical therapies. During her fellowship, she trained as well at NYSEPH, the New York Society for Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, completing their certified program. She has since been successfully incorporating this unique form of hypnotherapy into her private practice since 2001.
Further alternative studies that she completed were in Reiki, a centuries old form of energy healing that can complement traditional Western medicine or be used alone. Extensive training over the last seven years in the widely acclaimed Emotional Freedom Technique has helped a large number of patients achieve relief from a variety of problems, often without the use of any medication.
Her long-standing interest in Color Healing therapies pre-dates her medical school days, and she has studied many approaches to this form of healing over the years, using many of the techniques pioneered by masters in the field, such as Peter Mandel and Fabien Maman.

I saw Dr. Milau for many years. She helped me far beyond other NYC psychiatrists She has amazing medical training but she also employs alternative techniques such as Reiki. She is phenomenal!
