More about Dr. Viet Bui, MD, JD
My passion in the healing arts of psychiatry was first sparked in medical school, as I listened to our initial lectures about psychotherapy and neurobiology. I was immediately fascinated by what many consider the last frontier of medicine: the human mind. I pursued a career in psychiatry throughout medical school, and successfully completed my first two years of residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. I then transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, here in Los Angeles, to finish my last two years. It was there where I decided to pursue a degree in law. I entered law school at the UC Hastings College of the Law, and graduated in 2010. In order to further explore the intersection of psychiatry and law, I trained at the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at UCLA.
I have worked in a wide variety of public and private sector settings all over California. I have treated adults, children, and adolescents. I have consulted in a wide range of legal cases, from criminal responsibility to testamentary capacity. Currently, I am on the Expert Witness Panel of the Orange County Superior Court and provide community mental health at the Guidance Center in Los Angeles. I specialize in working with patients experiencing depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder. In forensic psychiatry, I am experienced in cases involving criminal justice and family law.
In my spare time, I enjoy music, literature, and art.
It will be my pleasure to work with the diverse and eclectic population of the South Bay, Los Angeles.
