Getting to know Renee Wyatt

The provider is a Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker. Through lived experience, she knows firsthand the difficulties of living clean and sober, locating permanent housing, and obtaining employment, fully aware of the impact systemic injustice has on post-incarcerated individuals. Her strong devotion to underserved populations inspired her to take on responsibilities such as Housing Liaison. In 2012, Renee single-handedly housed 80% of the homeless population at Barbour & Floyd Medical Associates by navigating complex bureaucratic policies and procedures-her boss proudly called her the "Housing Guru." Her sincere passion is to change policies that create barriers for the homeless, such as under-resourced neighborhoods or restrictive homeless definitions that limit access to housing for individuals with criminal histories. Renee also has a passion for learning, holding a Master's in Clinical Social Work from California State University, Long Beach; a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills; and a Bachelor's degree from Long Beach City College. Learn more about Renee from the PBS Newshour documentary "Life After Lockup."

The therapist had an calm and pleasant personality and was very nice. My daughter and I was excited to see someone that could be familiar with our culture. The therapist mentioned generational trauma. Although we felt ok with the visit, we decide she was not a good fit for our needs and would not be booking again with her. We did tell her that we wanted to see her weekly but as we process some of the questions as well as some personal information she shared, decided it was not for us.

I made this appointment with the understanding that my insurance was accepted after submitting my information a week before my scheduled appointment day. Did not hear anything from them until 2 days before my appointment via Zocdoc that they needed more information. I gave them a call and left a voicemail. They did not return my phone call. Then today, 20 minutes before my scheduled visit, they text me about my insurance, come to find out it’s not accepted. I pointed out how unprofessional this was especially after I called and left a voicemail. To this, whomever was on the other end said “I apologize, I understand how frustrating this is. We didn't receive any calls or voicemails from you so I will work to make sure our contact information is up to date.” I then sent them a screenshot of the call (that included the number they were texting from) and miraculously my voicemail appeared. This provider was disrespectful and inconsiderate of my time and I’m concerned this may be a pattern.
