Besides seeing patients himself (appt times on the hour, e.g., 9 am) Dr. Barkey works onsite with three PAs who see their own patients. Wendy Meredith (15 yrs with Dr. B) sees general derm and cosmetic pts. If you are an established patient of hers or wish to see her for an initial consult visit for a general derm issue or to discuss and plan a possible cosmetic procedure (Botox, fillers, IPL, chemical peels) her appt times are M- Th 11:10 and 2:10. Heidi Schultz PAC (13 years surgery experience, 7 with Dr. B) has done over 2000 benign and malignant excisions for Dr. B and also does general and cosmetic derm. Her appt times are Th 9:40 am and 1:40 pm. Rachel Brown (5 yrs with Dr. B) does general and cosmetic derm and her appt times are M/W 8:20 and M/W/Th 1:20.
Walter Barkey, M.D. was born and raised in the Flint area. He received his BA from the UM (With High Distinction) where he was Phi Beta Kappa his junior year. He attended medical school at UM where he was a member of the honorary fraternity Alpha Omega Alpha. He did his dermatology residency at the UNC in Chapel Hill where he was chief resident his final year. He became Board Certified in Dermatology in 1983. He moved back to the Flint area in 1983 practicing in Flint Township for 25 years before moving to his current location on West Hill Road in 2008.
Dr. Barkey is passionate about patient education. He has personally written over 200 detailed handouts for his patients and made dozens of educational DVDs. He is committed to providing his patients with up to date, thorough, and compassionate care.

Dr. Barkey is the best. I've seen him twice (first time was 6 years ago) and he told me things about my first visit that I had forgotten! He is very detailed, takes his time with each patient, and yet the wait has never been long. I think this means he doesn't overbook patients. I can tell he has a true love and passion for what he does. It was truly a pleasurable experience (if that's possible visiting a doctor!) His friendly, professional staff even gently convinced me to get the shingles vaccine which I've been resisting for years!

Dr. Barkey and his staff were wonderful; very kind and helpful. He took time to explain everything (without being condescending) and checked to be sure I understood his instructions. I have already recommended him to 3 people! I was anxious about doing the skin check but he made it seem like no big deal by chatting as he worked and keeping me covered up except for the areas he was checking.I will definitely see him for future treatment and concerns.

Dr. Barkey was very professional and took time to discuss and explain his findings with me. He sat next to me and had pictures of what was normal and what was not normal for skin lesions. I would highly recommend Dr. Barkey to anyone.

I thought that Dr. Barkey was nice and also professional. He did do a good job at explaining what was going on regarding the reason I came in, although he didn’t ask me if I had any other questions or concerns or check me for any other abnormalities like moles. We literally ONLY discuss the reason I was there and he did not ask if I had any other questions or concerns, so for a first-time patient I did not feel it was a very thorough check up. My main issue was with the assistant that was in the room, I believe her name is Tisha. She was not friendly, and it made me uncomfortable. Every time I looked at her and tried to politely smile and be friendly she just glared at me as though she was very disinterested and irritated she had to be in the room. I found her to be cold/unfriendly and if I come back to that office I will specifically be asking that a different assistant come in with him because her bedside manner was awful!
