About Dr. William Gilson

JUNGIAN, LGBTQI, INTERCULTURAL. Full-time private practice 30+ years. I am accepting patients who are motivated to confront issues which are preventing them from fully actualizing themselves. Current practice: Jungian oriented analytic approach. Diverse patient population--Asian, S.Asian, Americans, Persons of Color,Latinos, Artists to CEOs. Common presenting issues--anxiety, depression, substance abuse, self sabotaging behaviors, career/social difficulties, HIV/medical conditions, history of sexual/physical/ emotional abuse. Training: Jungian supervision 20+ years with Nathan Schwartz-Salant. Adult psychiatry residency at Albert Einstein/Tremont Crisis Center, the first NYC training program which focused on a community based intercultural approach. Child and Adolescent fellowship. CME to remain current on medication options. Treatment: I view symptoms as protection from feelings which are too to painful to experience. Undertaking the journey of self exploration requires courage. Identifying patterns of behavior and their genesis provides the basis for self-acualization. I encourage other modalities e.g. spiritual practice, AA, exercise, yoga, diet. Practical I do not accept any insurance. Out of network coverage. I am not primarily a psychopharmacologist. Accept medication patients for anxiety, depression, ADD, panic attacks. SKYPE option. Short term treatment for life issues.

When I book an appointment with Dr.Gilson, I was already on the transition from my previous psychiatrist. I could not stand the very little availability she had, could not reach her on the phone before a bunch of calls, messages. Her secretary almost never returned my messages. She did a bunch of mistakes on written prescriptions. Just with a leap of faith I booked Dr.Gilson and I am very happy I did so. In my first visit, I waited maybe 10 minutes at most. Honestly his waiting room was very comfy and artsy so I actually enjoyed wandering my eyes around while waiting He was very professional and attentive to my medical and technical issues. We have decided to move forward with a plan. So the visit was very good BUT: More than my psychiatrists, I always have trouble with the pharmacies. So many rules that I am not aware, changing insurance policies, different pharmacists unaware of each others conflicting statements etc.. and of course again, there were issues at the pharmacy. With my previous psychiatrist, anytime there is an issue like that at the pharmacy, I would be like "oh my, how to fix this" and phones, messages, this that, would take days without a refill at all. To my biggest surprise when I contacted him he responded my texts almost right away! and help me through all of the issues. He contacted my insurance and set things straight. I can not believe how fast I was able to get through that. I would totally recommend him to anyone who needs not only a good medical doctor but an attentive doctor to help you solve your problems with other issues.
