Dr. Zahra Sara Afshari is a compassionate and diligent neurologist serving the community of Glenview, IL. Dr. Afshari earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago. She completed her residencies in internal medicine and neurology at the University of Michigan. She then finished her fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Northwestern University.
Dr. Afshari is a part of Neurology at the Glen. She is board certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is an active member of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Medical Association. She was also the recipient of the Illinois General Assembly Public Service scholarship in 2001, 2002, 2004. Because Dr. Afshari is bilingual in English and Farsi, patients from a variety of backgrounds enjoy having her as their physician.

Took my mom to Dr. Afshari for memory problems. Checking in and filling out forms for 10 minutes with the front dest person, we were then told that SHE (the front dest person) was the doctor, and that her receptionist called in sick. This was fine, but she should have introduced herself upfront instead of waiting until after we had been talking to her for a while. During the appointment, she asked a lot of questions, but when it came time to testing my mom's memory, she left the room, and sent in another employee to give my mom the cognitive test. After it was graded, Dr. Afshari returned to the room and basically told my family (with my mom present) that my mom had beginning stage Alzheimers. She never did a physical exam until I mentioned weakness on one side of my mom's body that was noticed by her physical therapist, and internist. She quickly checked my mom's strength and said it seemed fine. She recommended my mom have her driving evaluated, have a comprehensive memory test done with a neuropsychologist, and wanted her to start a drug that was not covered by insurance, but she would fill out a special form from the drug company, which would possibly give special pricing for this situation. The neuropsychologist memory test results came back as NOT Alzheimers. The doctor never called back about the paperwork for the drug, and after 2 months, we received a call from her office saying that if my mom did not have her driving evaluated, she would call the DMV and have her DL revoked. We have since seen another doctor, and feel much better about his approach and treatment. I do not recommend her.

I'm very happy to have found Dr. Afshari. She is very kind, and very thorough. There were no questions I could asked that she didn't have a specific answer to. I left with a write up which was more like a road map to follow until our next visit.
Clearly she is a seasoned professional in her industry and I'm looking forward to continuing to be under her care.
Her office was clean and well maintained furthermore each staff member I spoke with had a smile and were helpful to the highest degree. If you need a physician with her skill set, there is no need to go anywhere else.

Dr. Afshari immediately made me feel at ease. Her staff was friendly and her office was very clean. We talked about my issues and Dr. Afshari mapped out a treatment plan that was very logical. I left her office feeling much better right away. She wrote notes in a stepwise fashion for me that were very clear to understand. I called her office a couple days later and she answered the phone herself. Not just a great doctor but a genuinely nice person! I would highly recommend!

I was so impressed with her friendly yet professional manner. Dr. Afshari is kind, pleasant, and very patient. She is so organized. I was scribbling notes and she left the room for a moment. A young student told me: you don't have to do that. She'll hand you notes as you leave. And she did! This was my first visit, and I feel so positive about the experience. I highly recommend her.

Dr Afshari sat with me for nearly an hour, asking me questions and getting at the details of my condition. She transcribed all the bits and pieces of my experience, before giving me a detailed plan of action. I can't express how well-received I felt in her presence. She is so obviously an expert but used plain language to put me at ease; which is appreciated when dealing with "brain stuff" that tends to be anxiety-provoking. The office itself is also beautiful, and parking was right out front.

I felt that she truly cared about my pain and finding the best, least intrusive solution to the pain. She wasn't quick to order a lot of expensive tests, but DID order necessary tests. I feel that she listened to me and will work with me until we have a solution to my chronic migraine problem.

Dr. Afshari was very patient and informative and explained everything clearly to me while diagnosing and sent me home with a list of notes written in clear words on what I should and should not do. the treatment is in progress but the experience at her office was quite pleasant. Its a brand new office too. Very clean, airy and spacious.

Dr Afshari was a fantastic Dr.
She was very warm and welcoming, a great listener, and thorough in her approach to diagnose what may be the problem. It is rare to meet a Dr. who cares deeply for what they practice and how they a play a part in the overall treatment of the patient.
Dr. Afshari immediately made me feel welcome and at ease. She truly cares about the patient and what's the best course of action for them. She took notes on a piece of notebook paper for me, and then handed the sheet to me at the end of my visit. I was thoroughly impressed by the overall experience and would recommend Dr. Afshari, if you need a Neurologist. It is rare to find a Dr. with such a personable and calming spirit. Really glad I chose her from ZocDoc.

My mother was welcomed and made to feel at ease as soon as we arrived. When meeting with Dr Afshari she spoke to my mom and explained everything so that she understood what was happening. Very positive experience.

I came to Dr. Afshari with chronic lower back/leg pain from a recent car accident. The pain had not responded well to PT and steroid injections had caused complications. Dr. Afshari was able to sort through the complications of my case and listened so attentively to my concerns. She provided me with a specific diagnosis, treatment plan, and a cautious medication regime. Along the way, she continues to provide care options and recommendations to support my recovery process. She has even addressed a longer standing headache issue with positive results. I highly recommend Dr. Afshari!
