Short version: the scheduling--which was so smooth and easy on Zocdoc--turned out to be a nightmare in reality; the location was apparently not amenable to patients who had signed up using Zocdoc; after phone calls back and forth with Dr. Calimag'sassistant, I was finally seen over an hour after my scheduled appointment time; I found Dr. Calimag's bedside manner to be callous, sarcastic, and generally upsetting; I would not recommend this doctor. The long version, for anyone who's thinking about making an appointment, and enjoys reading long-winded negative reviews: I made an appointment with Dr. Calimag specifically because his location was convenient for me. I spoke on the phone with his kind assistant, Andrew, a couple days before, who confirmed my appointment time and location. I want to add here that Andrew was nothing but helpful and polite during this whole saga. Upon arrival at the facility, which in this case was the Methodist Hospital on Foster, I was informed that their clinic does not accept patients who scheduled appointments using Zocdoc, and that I would need to see Dr. Calimag at his regular office in Park Ridge. This was at 12:50pm, when my appointment was at 1. I don't have a car, so this wasn't an option (plus the reason I made this appointment in the first place was for the location convenience). I called Andrew (Dr. Calimag's assistant) who assured me that the doctor was on his way, would see me at this location, and was unfortunately running about 30 minutes late. I told this to the clinic who said that I would be able to see Dr. Calimag only after he had seen all of the other patients who were waiting to see him (I believe there were 6 or 8), so it could be hours. I explained that my appointment was for 1, and they still held that I would be the last person seen since I had made an appointment using Zocdoc (they also told me that Dr. Calimag's first appointment of the day was at 1:30--and yet my appointment was for 1, not sure where the disconnect happened with Zocdoc scheduling and the doctor's schedule?). I called Andrew again to tell him I would not be able to wait for hours to see the doctor, so I would have to leave. He said he would call Dr. Calimag and make sure that he saw me first when he arrived. I said I could wait until 2 pm, but no later. My appointment, remember, was for 1. I sat in the waiting room until 2, at which point I called Andrew to tell him I had to leave. He asked me to wait one more minute, at which point the receptionist from the clinic told me I was next. At about 2:10 I was shown into Dr. Calimag's office by an intern. Dr. Calimag made no greeting or small talk, did not stand from his desk or introduce himself, but instead starting by saying, "why didn't you see me at my Park Ridge office?" I explained that I had signed up [for a 1 pm appointment] to see him at THIS location on Zocdoc--an appointment which I had even confirmed over the phone with his assistant. He shrugged, offered no apology, and asked to see my insurance card. The first question he asked me was whether I'd be paying in person, or if they should bill me. Ha! Once we had this out of the way, he asked me why I was there. We had a series of back and forths, while he took notes. I explained my symptoms, my past treatments for these issues, he made a sarcastic joke about my chosen method of treatment so far (acupuncture), and generally had a tone that didn't come across as even professional-level pleasantness to me. He took my blood pressure, which--lo and behold--was very high considering the stressful logistical issues, and his judgmental tone which I'd been subjected to since walking in the door. He turned to his intern, in front of me, and commented in a joking manner that a patient with blood pressure this high "could have a stroke." The intern looked uncomfortable, as this is obviously not something you joke about in front of a patient. Other highlights included Dr. Calimag telling the intern that given my symptoms, I could have an aneurysm. Again, this was said somewhat lightly, like a joke, and it was very odd. I've honestly never had a doctor who used sarcasm/jokes so lightly, and it was incredibly upsetting. Not surprisingly, I chose to find a different neurologist, so I can't comment as to Dr. Calimag's professional abilities. That said, I am someone who needs a doctor that has respect for his patients, and respect for their time, and I found that Dr. Calimag had neither for me. Perhaps it was an off day for him, but given my experience, I would not recommend this doctor.

I think you can tell a lot about a doctor’s office by their office staff. Andrew, Dr. Calimag’s assistant is pleasant, easy to work with and very professional. Dr. Calimag was also very professional, thorough and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this doctor.

I arrived for my appt 15 minutes early. When I got there the receptionist was arguing with her boyfriend. She told me to call the police but then told me not to call the police. She then pushed him out thedoor, locked it and said not to let him in. It was all very bizarre. The Dr was 40 minutes late in getting to the office. He didn't seem really concerned about my health but said someone would call me to schedule head CT. That was 5 days ago. I called them to see what the hold up was. I could barely understand what the receptionist was saying. She said she would call me back in half hour. That was 24 hours ago. Clearly this doctor and his staff have no regards for a patient's health. I ended up in the ER where they took better care of me.

The wait time was right at an hour, which is a tad longer than it really should be. 30 minutes is somewhat reasonable. Dr. David Calimag was wonderful. He was extremely personable and made the patient feel comfortable. He explained thingsvery clearly and was very good at trying to understand our situation. He is one of the best specialist we've seen in the Chicago area!

He was very rude and condescending. The front desk person was extremely nervous the whole time and disorganized. Everything in the office was old school, which would have been fine if it worked out for them but they rescheduled my appointmentand then when I got there it seemed like they rescheduled 4 other people for the same time. Would never come back again.

Dr. Calimag's staff is really good about communicating appointment information. He has two convenient locations (I saw him at both), and they fit you in quickly when you have a problem. The Dr. himself is very personable and calm. When Icame to him with some suspicious symptoms, he ordered an MRI for me, knowing my family's history. I saw him in office to discuss the MRI at the St. Anthony location. He went above and beyond by showing me the MRI images on the computer and explaining them to me (even though everything came back normal luckily) because he knows of my interest in medicine. Great bedside manner & expertise. Thank you, Dr.!

Great doctor! Took a moment to answer all of my questions. Then he mentioned since he had a moment, he wanted to show me little more about my diagnosis in the encyclopedia. Thought it was nice of him since I am used to doctors just brushing me of.

After seeing this doctor earlier today, I've replayed my visit over again in my head and discussed my concerns with family. My conclusion, I will not be going back for the follow up visit. The office had called me 45 minutesbefore my appointment and said they were ahead of schedule. She said they could see me right away if I could get there sooner. After my appointment, I realized that he must have been in a hurry to go somewhere. We walked out of his office at the same time. Without going into every detail of my appointment... Here are the reasons why I wouldn't recommend this doctor. - He was rude. I am pretty sure he was mocking me the whole appointment. Also, when his cell phone rang during our conversation, he just cut me off... Didn't even say "excuse me" and just started talking on his phone. When he got off he told me "see, I'm a busy man" Wasn't sure if he was implying I was wasting his time. - I was told by another physician to consult with a neurologist regarding some issues I'm having. Dr. Calimag didn't even listen to what I had to say, he was completely dismissive. I didn't even give him all of the information about my medical history, he was very rushed. - "Diagnosed" me with a condition that I already had been diagnosed with by my referring doctor. As mentioned above, he didn't not take the time to listen to all of the information or even why my other doctor referred me there. Overall, I was in his exam room less than 20 minutes. This included examination, writing a prescription, his random phone call and getting all of my medical history. He cut me off on numerous occasions and overall just made me feel like I was wasting his time. I like to try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but I left this appointment feeling very slighted. Maybe I caught him on a bad day, we all have them... But, I refuse to see a doctor that doesn't take time to listen to me. I guess there's a reason why I was able to get an appointment so quickly and why he had so many openings. I personally will not return to Dr. Calimag for medical care. If his behavior today is any indication of his bedside manner, I would highly recommend looking for another doctor. Hopefully no one else has the same experience that I had.
