Dr. Murrell’s main clinical and research interests are directed towards optimizing outcomes and techniques in colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis. Moreover, he specializes in small incision techniques such as minimally-invasive single port laparoscopy, and robotic surgery.
Dr. Murrell has written numerous articles for peer-reviewed publications and is the primary author of two book chapters on colon and rectal surgery and ulcerative colitis.
After earning a bachelor's in biology at Morehouse College (magna cum laude), Dr. Murrell earned his medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He performed a general surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. After performing a fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, Dr. Murrell performed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at Cedars-Sinai.
