I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified yoga teacher. I received my Master's in Social Work from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois in Chicago. I have many years of experience working with survivors of gender-based violence. Unfortunately, this can overlap with maternal and women’s mental health.
In addition to working as a therapist at Nurture Therapy, LLC, I work as a medical social worker at Northwestern Medicine. In this role, I provide direct patient care, case management, and care coordination services and facilitate monthly support groups for survivors of intimate partner violence. I bring my medical knowledge to my therapeutic work. I believe in taking a holistic approach to therapy and each individual, recognizing the importance of the mind-body connection.
Pregnancy and motherhood are huge life changes that can bring on difficult feelings and emotions. In addition to our emotional health, pregnancy requires great physical and hormonal changes. After birth and delivery, recovery and healing can be complicated by feelings of depression or anxiety, disrupting a new mom’s ability to function. My hospital experience helps me to treat these issues within a medical framework as well as with the compassion of a mental health professional.
Therapy can be a crucial aid in managing symptoms and physical recovery. During my yoga teacher training, I found a great passion for pre-and postnatal care. I like to combine my knowledge and experience as a therapist and yoga teacher to help you find balance and practice skills you can use in all parts of your life.
As a therapist I take a collaborative approach, helping you clarify your goals for therapy in a caring and nonjudgmental way. I employ various techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strengths Based Therapy, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in my work. For me, it's important to understand the whole person.
