Cari Baumgardner received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from St. Vincent College and her Master of Science in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University. Cari is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has been working in the counseling field since 2001 serving various client populations including military service members and their dependents, juvenile, and adult forensic populations, families, couples, children, and groups.
Cari has experience working in a variety of settings including military bases, government offices, schools, court systems, jails, residential programs, in office, and in client’s homes. She has experience working with varying mental health diagnoses, gender and sexual identity issues, marital and relationship concerns, family conflict, and child/adolescent behavioral issues. She has experience facilitating psychoeducational presentations to small and large groups.
Cari uses the evidence-based practices of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Solution Focused Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, mindfulness, and Reality Therapy to meet the needs of the clients. She is trained in Seeking Safety, a substance use and trauma-focused group practice. Cari is also certified in the evidence-based therapies of Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) and Multisystemic Therapy (MST). Additionally, she is certified in the intervention CLEAR (Choosing Life! Empowerment, Action Results!), a one on one intervention for youths/adults living with HIV or are at high risk of HIV infection.
