More about Dr. Cecelia Quinn, LCSW, PhD
I am a bilingual, Spanish-speaking licensed clinical therapist with a PhD in Social Work and as well as an M.S.W. and an M.A. in Women and Gender Studies from Loyola University Chicago, where I also teach as an adjunct professor. I have over eleven years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples and groups. I have extensive advanced training in trauma, particularly gender-based violence and the impact of trauma on immigrants and refugees.
Therapy is an amazing tool where collaboration with an experienced therapist can assist you to become the best version of yourself. As a strengths-based feminist therapist, I focus on the talents and strengths my clients bring with them into session. Often, when you are struggling with your mental health or other obstacles such as life transitions, it becomes difficult to see your own strengths. However, a non-judgmental, empathic, relational approach to therapy allows for you to grow in a safe space. Together, we will develop this space, as well as a mutually respectful relationship. Through culturally competent and trauma-informed therapy techniques, I strive to recognize people’s intersecting identities and enduring strengths.
I specialize in the treatment of Perinatal Mood Disorders, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. For eight years, I worked at a community-based clinic specializing in the treatment of such disorders- the only specifically focused maternal mental health clinic in the Midwest at the time. I have experience working with women and their families, as well as facilitating groups for pregnant women, couples, and grieving mothers. I also received advanced training in trauma and recovery, including gender-based trauma and immigration issues. I work with these populations to provide culturally sensitive treatment and support. I use a variety of evidence-based and clinical approaches, as well as yoga, self-care, psycho-education, and trauma-informed therapy.
