As part of her formal education, Dr. Herrold earned a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver. She actively stays up to date with research and developments in her field. What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, I believe that curiosity, comfort, and courage are essential to a therapeutic space, and use these tools to meet you where you are at. I strive to understand both who you are as an individual as well as how you exist within the world, considering that outside factors such as resources, culture, relationships, and community have an influence on you and your life. Regardless of your reason for presenting for therapy, I hope to work with you towards an increased sense of agency, empowerment, and acceptance. I practice from an existential-humanistic perspective while incorporating other evidence-based interventions such as relational-cultural, systems, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session we will work towards getting to know each other, identify what your goals for therapy may be, and determine if we would be a good fit. I will also share a bit about myself, my approach, and reassure that you know this time and space is for you! When working with me you can expect someone who is genuine, compassionate, and holds you accountable for the changes you are hoping to make in your life. I look forward to the opportunity to connect.

Dr. Herrold makes me feel very heard & welcome. She listens without judgement and makes me feel safe enough to be honest about how i'm feeling.
Dr. Herrold was very attentive during our session. I felt heard when we reflected on certain topics. The atmosphere of our session was calm and inviting, I felt very comfortable discussing my problems and felt no judgement.
When I have met with Abbi, I have found her to be truly caring and considerate of me and my situations. She routinely asks questions I have found difficult to ask myself, encouraging me to think more deeply. Although sometimes I feel unsure and even embarrassed to talk about some of my problems, Abbi has continuously made me feel welcome and comfortable to share.
