I'm Dinelle Polchinski and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in NJ. I am trained in individual, couples, and structural family therapy. I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, severe and persistent mental illness, grief and trauma focused therapy.
My approach
While my style can be described as eclectic, my sessions with individuals are primarily person-centered, interpersonal and supportive. I incorporate techniques from Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, mindfulness and self-compassion. I am trained in grief support, trauma therapy and I'm a certified ADHD professional.
My focus
I primarily work with clients struggling with depression, anxiety and severe and persistent mental illnesses. Typically in my traditional outpatient work, I have focused on adjustment to various life transitions. I teach coping skills for stress and interpersonal dynamics.
My communication style
I am honest and easy-going and will meet you where you're at. At the same time, I will offer gentle confrontation when needed. Sessions with me are conversational, person-centered and focused on strengths. I use humor and support and understanding. I am not here to offer advice or expertise. But rather I am here to listen and guide you towards making lasting change.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started my career over 20 years ago and have worked in various settings including outpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, residential, intensive in-community and supportive housing. Regardless of the setting, my work and passion always remains the same: working alongside the individuals I serve in order to guide them towards insight and positive change.

Clients come to therapy with their own goals already in mind. I am here to listen to those goals and help them attain them.
My first session with you
The first couple of sessions are about learning about the client and building a trusting relationship.
