Dixie Appel Soghoian (she/her) is a Mental Health Counselor based in Brooklyn. She provides trauma-informed, evidence-based and multicultural counseling to children, adolescents, families and couples, with psychological profiles ranging from moderate anxiety to severe and persistent mental illness. Dixie believes deeply in the transformative potential of psychotherapy, and seeks to provide non-stigmatizing, integrative and adaptive approaches to the therapeutic encounter for individuals across the lifespan. At Dwellness, she works both remotely and in-home with individuals, striving to create safe emotional spaces of exploration, understanding, attunement and healing.
Dixie earned her bachelor’s degree cum laude from Hunter College in Psychology and Art History. She completed her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with the Colin Powell School of Civic and Global Leadership at City College in 2021 and is a proud recipient of the Hunter College Graduate Scholarship.
Dixie worked as a psychiatric intern at the inpatient unit of Lenox Hill Hospital, and later as a clinical intern with Dwellness, where she is now a full-time staff clinician. She currently continues her post-graduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Mitchell Center. Dixie is a native New Yorker now based in Downtown Brooklyn, where she lives with her husband and cat. In her spare time, she enjoys embroidery and dancing.
