Elena White, LMFT

Psychotherapist
850 Colorado Blvd, 203, Los Angeles, CA
My name is Elena (she/her). I'm a licensed psychotherapist in the state of California. I have a Master's in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, with a focus on community mental health. I have practiced as a therapist in the Bay Area and Los Angeles for over 10 years and have had the pleasure of working with individuals, couples, families, and teens. I feel passionately about working with people who feel isolated or different, or that they're either too much or not enough for the world around them. I work with both a psychodynamic and attachment theory lens but recognize that one size never fits all. Our therapeutic relationship will serve as a grounding space where you can explore the more tender parts of yourself. My family arrived in Los Angeles from Mexico and the southern parts of the U.S. I identify as multiracial, and I understand firsthand the feeling of non-belonging, displacement, and the impact of intergenerational trauma. I also understand the suspicion and stigma that can come with seeking therapy. However, I believe in the transformative and supportive relationship we can build together-and I believe that healing is our right.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m a therapist in Los Angeles who specializes in reparenting, multicultural and identity issues, panic and anxiety, and uncovering blocks using brainspotting. I utilize a supportive, psychodynamic approach, which primarily means that I am interested in both your past and your present, in order to help you work toward a more content future. I believe that our earliest relationships have the most significant influence on how we view our world and our places in it. Once we identify these influences and patterns, we are able to adjust, reframe, and heal from them. You may think, “I’ve already discussed this with my old therapist,” or “I’m not interested in looking to the past, I need to focus on the future.” But uncovering old relationships, experiences, patterns, or habits will help expose the more difficult parts of your life experience that are demanding to be heard. I will be here with you as we start to uncover and listen to the hidden parts of yourself. I offer a safe space to start letting go, in order to make room for happiness, fulfillment, and freedom. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable and useful for you. Together, we will work on identifying and meeting your unique short- and long-term goals. We can also work on helping you find relief from burnout, exhaustion, insecurity, and lack of boundaries. Therapy is a relationship like no other, and my own experiences have helped prepare me to help others gain confidence, hope, and finding their most authentic and comfortable selves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is a unique, one-of-a-kind relationship with another person who is trained to listen in a very particular way, in order to identify long-held beliefs, patterns, and assumptions that may not be obvious to you. A typical session for some might be for some, revisiting an issue or problem in order to shed light or process residual feelings. For others, a typical session might be that the topic or the process changes according to what the client might need or want. In a 50 minute session we may use somatic therapy, brainspotting, talk therapy, or breathwork. I will tailor the approach to each client and their distinct needs.
