Hi there, I'm Elizabeth!
My name is Elizabeth Dufour, LPC and I am a person-centered counselor in the state of Alaska. I believe that each person has within themselves the capacity to change, heal, grow, and live up to their full potential. In today's world it is all too common to struggle with mental health problems alone and it is my passion to help change that.
My approach
I take a majorly person-centered approach to counseling, meaning that I trust that you will guide therapy in the place that it needs to go and that nobody knows you better than yourself. I aim to walk alongside you as you overcome challenges and learn how to find the joy in your life, rather than direct you where I think you need to go. I utilize several different techniques in counseling partnered with my person-centered approach including attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, solutions-focused brief therapy, and trauma-informed care. When working with childrenI I use child-centered play therapy.
My focus
I work with individuals including children, adolescents, and adults with various mental health challenges and substance use issues. My training includes treating depression, anxiety, autism, trauma, substance use disorders, grief/loss, and adjustment concerns. I have experience working with children/adolescents struggling with mental health, behavioral issues, and trauma.
My communication style
My communication style can be described as honest, collaborative, and non judgemental. Opening up and being vulnerable is hard enough and it is my hope to provide a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for you to explore your challenges and symptoms. It is my goal to build a relationship with my clients that is trusting and genuine.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always knew that I wanted to help people and I found that I have a passion for listening to others and getting to know their story.
