Getting to know Emily Logsdon

Hello and welcome to NY City Psychotherapy! I am Emily Logsdon, LMSW. I became a therapist because I am passionate about helping people see their true potential and worth. Empowering others to advocate for their own needs, accept themselves, and believe in their own capabilities is something I find so important in my work as a therapist. I hold a Master’s in Social Work and a Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. I currently work with individuals, families, and groups, utilizing a trauma-informed approach to strengthen self-awareness and recognize the power of choice to make positive life changes. Sessions are client-centered and collaborative to learn and enhance skills to achieve these changes. I often draw strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and coping skills training for borderline personality disorder. If you are struggling with managing anxiety and low moods, regulating your emotions and distress, and maintaining your relationships, therapy with me may be the right fit for you. I currently work with clients aged 16 and older residing in New York and Florida.

What should a new client know about working with you?

*PLEASE NOTE: All sessions are private pay. The practice does not accept insurance. We can submit claims to your insurance for out-of-network benefits reimbursement on your behalf through a platform called Mentaya-free of charge- or send you Superbill receipts if you prefer to personally submit claims. Your appointment is not confirmed until you complete our paperwork which reception will email to you. If you do not receive a welcome email right away, please check your spam folder.* There are many important components to therapy that I try to bring into sessions to help my clients feel safe and heard. I help them foster a sense of self-love and compassion, as well as learn new skills to help challenge negative thoughts, regulate difficult feelings, and change unwanted behaviors that may be holding them back from their goals or from feeling at their best. I understand what it is like to feel lost in how to navigate stressful situations or mental health challenges, which is why helping others feel empowered to make changes is so important to me. In addition to supportive therapy, I also offer skills training sessions for clients interested in DBT specific work. DBT focuses on mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, & distress tolerance skills. What does this mean? This looks like building self awareness, knowing how to move through difficult and heightened emotions, and practicing communication and boundary setting skills. DBT skills training is offered in individual and/or group sessions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions are a time for us to get to know one another, assess your goals, and make sure this is the right fit for you and what you are looking for. We will discuss what brought you into therapy and how I can help. I will take the time to get to know you and listen. Together, we will create a plan on how to make therapy sessions the most valuable and productive for you. Whether you are looking for support and a place to process or structured coping skills training or both, my goal is to have you leaving sessions feeling like we are doing meaningful work.

Emily is great listener and makes me feel very understood and so comfortable in session. I highly recommend Emily!
The most kind and helpful person I have ever worked with, I cannot recommend Emily enough!
Emily is a wonderful therapist. Empathetic, but also tough. Really enjoy working with you.
Authenticity offers, excellent counseling services and so I highly recommend this group to help with all your mental counseling counseling needs. KB
Emily is empathetic and an excellent therapist!
Emily has been professional and kind - I felt like we hit it off right away and I feel very comfortable speaking with her. I am glad that I was able to find someone who has been so helpful thus far and I look forward to continuing to work with her.
The ways in which Emily catches me when I am communicating negatively towards myself is extremely effective, and has lasting effects in my daily life. I am now curious about the ways in which I am consciously and subconsciously treating myself badly. Emily provides simple ways to begin to peel away the aspects of myself that no longer serve me. She always follows up with helpful homework and paperwork to dig into what were working on during our sessions, and I find this very helpful. In the short time I have worked with her, I can already see the positive effects. I feel challenged in a good way-and simultaneously do not feel pressure to be anywhere other than where I am at in my own healing process- Emily is supportive, relatable, and very intelligent.
Emily is great. We have developed a rapport that allows us to both speak freely. She consistently pushes me out of my comfort zone (because those were the parameters I set when starting). We consistently evaluate the work we are doing together and have a goal in which I would like to continue to work towards.
Emily is very warm and caring. She understands you from the beginning. She felt safe and I was comfortable sharing my self with her. I feel like she listens to you and meets you where you are. Highly recommend to anyone who struggles finding a good therapist.
I believe is by far the best therapist I’ve ever had. She was always on target with everything and always had great tools, and was always empathetic. She helps empower you! I highly recommend her to anyone.
Emily is the best therapist I've ever had! I've been with her for about a year now - She's patient, kind and incredibly knowledgable. People around me (family, friends, my partner) have started to make comments about how much better I am at coping with life's stressors. I owe all those changes to Emily. If you're looking for a new therapist, look no further, you've found her! :)
