Sessions can be explorative or practical, reflective or pragmatic, more conversational or more structured - all depending on the particular client, their unique circumstances, and their own intentions and motivations in seeking a therapist. Exploring the past or probing painful events is undertaken when it is mutually understood to be desirable, and only to the extent that it is helpful; never for its own sake.
