More about Fernando Quigua, LMSW
Insight-oriented, specializing in anxiety, alienation, sadness, relationship issues, purpose, and dreams
A lot of people come to me these days with anxiety and depression, and often I find this to be the proper response to where they find themselves (in their relationships or jobs) or to the state of the world. It's true. And maybe it's ‘easy for me’ to say, but I see this as a good thing. Consider it: your symptom is your friend. A special kind of friend who will give it to you straight by speaking obliquely to some hard-edged truths. Your compulsions or phobias, alienation, and moods (they're not your fault), but they might be telling you that something's gotta change. Maybe it's your outlook, your imagination or identity that needs tuning. Or, again, the relationship, the job, your place in the world. Or maybe it's the world, itself, that needs changing (I sure think so), with you changing the world and yourself in the process. Either way, it's certainly worth talking about. In my experience, talking the talk (and walking the walk, which often takes care of itself) can take us a very long way.
Anyway, how are you holding up?
I ask because I'm curious. I ask because I care. Why do I care? I don't know, it's a mystery! Psychotherapy is not a little mysterious, and I find that it's full of surprises. In the broadest of brushstrokes, I try to help people align themselves with their sense of vitality and purpose while deepening their connections and solidarity with others. Much of this work is poetic; it's deep and necessarily soulful. Sometimes it's heavy, and sometimes, it's actually pretty funny. I also work with dreams. And if you "don't dream" or "don't remember" your dreams, then you will.
