All behavior is purposeful. This means that we never do anything for no reason. Even when our behavior appears confusing or counterproductive to our values, it still holds meaning and purpose. Therapy provides a setting where we can gain insight into the origins of our perceptions, thinking, and behavior. With clearer understanding, we become better equipped to identify factors within our control and consider alternative responses to our conditions. We also gain awareness of the needs being met by potentially self-defeating thoughts or behaviors and have a special opportunity to practice new ways of thinking in the safety of therapy. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Widener University, which has deepened my commitment to supporting clients through this transformative process.
