I am a California-licensed clinical social worker with 30 years of experience helping adolescents, families and adults work through tissues that are interfering with the quality of life they want. My approach is client-centered and focuses on success in life.
My approach
While I have been trained in multiple approaches what I seek to do is help my client define what s/he wants to address and I facilitate their decision-making process to find the best path forward.
My focus
My clients tend to be adolescents, families and adults who are confronted with barriers to life and happiness
My communication style
I would say my style is to ask what my client wants to address then I facilitate their problem-solving and decision-making about what will work for them - to help them move to where they want to go. It is neither directive nor passive but facilitative.
My journey to mental healthcare
As an adolescent, I spent all my high school years in a residential program. When I graduated college I became a teacher and then a principal then realized who I wanted to work with were those marginalized by schools and society. Over the years that has expanded to families struggling, foster families, adoptive families, and adults dealing with a range of issues including substance use/abuse issues and those who have been traumatized and need help getting unstuck.
My goals for you
My goal is to help my client set their goal regarding why they entered into therapy.
My first session with you
Other than the required intake stuff, I ask the client to identify what they hope to gain from therapy and as time allows to build an initial plan to move towards their goal.
