Academically I have a Masters of the Arts in clinical counseling with a specialization in Latino Mental Health Issues. During my internship training, at Riveredge Hospital in Forest Park, IL, I worked with teenagers with severe mental health issues ranging from aggression, depression, drug use, psychosis, anxiety, sexual abuse, and behavioral dysregulation. I have also worked at Ann & Robert H. Children’s Hospital of Chicago with Children and Adolescents in the process of receiving an organ transplant or cancer treatments. I also worked with at-risk children and adolescents at Brighton Park neighborhood where a group of psychologists from The Psychiatry Department at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Hospital of Chicago together with the city of Chicago trained me in Trauma. After working with children and adolescents, I decided to expand my scope of therapy to adults with anxiety, depression, marital issues, sexual orientation, and trauma while working in the suburbs surrounding the city of Chicago.
I believe that the therapist/client relationship should be a collaborative one. My style is direct but compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental. I combine different therapeutic approaches depending on your needs, situation, and personality. My therapeutic method draws from several models including cognitive therapy, dialectical therapy, existential therapy, problem-solving therapy, mindfulness, and family therapy.
We all have the power to overcome any difficult situation life throw at us. I will empower you; we will find solutions together, problem solve, change negative belief patterns, improve personal relationships, and discover self-awareness and introspection to improve your current situation.
