Excel Physical Therapist and Director of Hand Therapy, Joseph Martinez, grew up in Queens, New York. Joe completed his undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Old Westbury.
After his time at SUNY, Joe was performing as a drummer and working as a bartender, but was looking for a change in his career. He knew he wanted a fulfilling profession while remaining close to the music scene. It was at that point he started on the path to becoming a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).
Joe earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UMDNJ and went on to complete a fellowship in Hand Therapy at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery. After finishing over 4,000 hours of direct patient care, Joe passed his certification exam to become a CHT in 2016. Since then, Joe has gained the trust of both patients and physicians in Northern New Jersey for his expert and compassionate care.
Joe has a special interest in treating fellow musicians as well as athletes of all ages. He is passionate about splinting and casting to help keep his patients playing and working, or getting them back to what they love as quickly as possible. Joe takes a compassionate approach when providing care for his patients, treating them and educating them as he would his own family.
When he’s not in the office, Joe continues to make music as well as listen to both live and recorded music. A Mets/Jets fan, he also enjoys making wine and beer, barbecuing/grilling and lifting weights.
