Getting to know Kaitlyn Goff

Kaitlyn Goff is an Associate Counselor currently working under the supervision of Allison Devlin. Their license number is 37AC00787400. Well, hello there! My name is Kaitlyn, and I am a counselor here at Mindful Healing. I received my Master’s Degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling with a specialty in Victimology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, with a professional focus on complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Asking for help is never a sign of weakness; in fact, it is the first step of the healing process. As a counselor, I hope to provide a supportive and safe place for clients to be seen and heard. I operate from the belief that we are our biggest advocates and that we all have the capacity to change for a healthier, better quality of life. I believe it’s important to emphasize that we are all at different points in our lives. The changes we make, no matter how small, are not superficial but part of the greater process of healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

To promote empathy, it is crucial to focus on key factors. First, mindfulness serves as the cornerstone of empathy. Being present in the moment allows for active listening and a deeper connection with others. The concept of "putting yourself in someone else's shoes" enhances this understanding and fosters a genuine connection. Another essential factor is asking questions instead of making assumptions. Assumptions are often shaped by our own life experiences and do not reflect universal truths. Our personal biases can cloud our perception of others' experiences. By asking questions, we demonstrate care, curiosity, and a sincere interest in understanding someone else's perspective.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I utilize an eclectic and highly individualized approach. Common approaches that I have used are Person Centered techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I have continued work in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) which was fostered by working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
