More about Katelyn McNellis, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I received my Master’s Degree from Lewis University. My background is heavily rooted in individual and family crisis intervention. I believe in fostering a safe space with clients to develop a deeper understanding of self and individual experiences. This has been particularly important during my work with perinatal women.
Through my own personal passage to motherhood, I quickly realized that this journey is full of ups and downs. My experience has afforded me the opportunity to truly empathize with women as they take on their own unique motherhood journey. I am passionate about helping women navigate all of the uncertainties that can be associated with fertility, pregnancy, birth, birth trauma, postpartum health, and the transition to parenthood.
I utilize an evidence-based approach in therapy, coupled with an emphasis on collaboration. I believe that the foundation of effective therapy is the relationship formed between the therapist and the client. We can walk through your experiences together in order to discover a better understanding and healing along the way. I believe that each individual has her own set of strengths. My goal is to help you recognize and properly utilize these strengths in order to overcome challenges that come your way. I look forward to utilizing my knowledge to better equip you with coping skills that can be incorporated into your daily life.
While parenthood is supposed to be a happy time in your life, it may not always feel this way. For many women, motherhood is viewed as something that should come naturally, but this is not always the case. Along with the joy that accompanies pregnancy and the birth of a new baby, there may also be trauma and triggers associated with your birth, which creates pervasive feelings of loss and loneliness. 1in 3 women experience traumatic births; you are not alone.
