More about Martin Beck, CSW

I wasn't always a therapist; I am also an artist. I am a therapist licensed to provide social work services in Kentucky. I pursued my Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky and completed my research internship at the College of Social Work. I also completed my clinical internship at Berea Counseling Services, where I worked alongside experienced professionals and honed my skills and knowledge. With a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from S.U.N.Y. Buffalo and a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University, my journey as an artist began. Honored with two New Jersey State Council on the Arts fellowships, my artwork has been showcased in many prestigious exhibitions. Through my art, I have explored the human condition, drawing inspiration from an existential and humanistic viewpoint. As a first-generation American, I have firsthand experience of the challenges immigrants and their families face while navigating our complex society and institutions. My background reminds me of the need for empathy and understanding in my therapeutic work. Around 25 years ago, I received a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a form of arthritis that causes stiffness and pain in joints and connective tissues. While I managed the condition for a considerable period, its effects eventually impacted my art practice and daily life. Adapting to these changes, I decided to pursue a second career in psychotherapy. This transition prompted a reevaluation of my priorities and values, ultimately guiding me toward supporting others in navigating their own adversities. My personal experiences have taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I firmly believe in tailoring the therapeutic experience to meet each client's unique needs. By doing so, I can provide them with the support and tools they require to make real and lasting changes in their lives.
