I’m here to help you navigate the chaos of your life and become the best version of yourself. Therapy shouldn’t be awkward or scary—I aim to create an environment where you can show up exactly as you are and be seen, heard, and understood. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands, which informs my compassionate and client-centered approach.

Getting to know Melissa LaCour

I’m here to help you navigate the chaos of your life and become the best version of yourself. I work with open, self-reflective people who want to experience connection, heal from the past, and learn about themselves in a safe space. Therapy shouldn’t be awkward or scary—I aim to create an environment where you can show up exactly as you are and be seen, heard, and understood. What should a new client know about working with you?

As your therapist, I’ll be your champion & your advocate. I’ll also challenge you to be your best self. I will never shy away from sharing my own experiences or mistakes if you can benefit from them, and, above all, I am willing to get into — and sit in — the “uncomfortable” right alongside you. Counseling is about learning to be a human in relationship with others. With me, you’ll find a safe, non-judgmental space to practice that. My goal is that you leave every session with me feeling that your time was productive and well spent. This will look different every week — therapy doesn’t have to be a rigid step-by-step process — from simply processing the events of the past week to diving more deeply in past experiences or using exercises to cultivate a new skill to use in your day-to-day life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical intake session will include learning more about you and your presenting concerns. This can include symptoms, background information, family history, and other relevant parts of your life. One of the most important factors in a good therapeutic relationship is building rapport and trust, so I don't like to rush into the "deep stuff" right away. Intake sessions are 60-75 minutes and follow-up sessions can be either 45 or 60 minutes. Just as each of us have our own stories and experiences, therapy is also unique to you. There isn't a one-size-fits-all approach; each session is tailored specifically to you and your needs.
